Is there sperm in pre-cum?

YESS!!! There is sperm in pre-cum.
I am perfectly aware that a bunch of people think that the pull out method is a great way to prevent miniature humans from running around with your DNA, but this could not be more outdated. Against popular belief, THERE IS SPERM IN PRECUM! Although, there is a significantly lower number of sperm in pre-ejaculatory fluid than a full ejaculation, there are some determined swimmers in any kind of seminal fluid.
In a single ejaculation there is anywhere between 40 million and 100 million sperm being excreted. A study conducted by HHS Public Access, found that there can be up to 23 million sperm in pre-cum fluid. Also, in their year-long study, 2.5% of couples became pregnant due to pre-cum specifically. I know that number may seem minimal, however, if you think about it in a different light 1 out of every 50 times you have unprotected sex and use the pull out method a pregnancy occurs. For me, that is not a risk I am willing to take.
They also concluded that peeing in between ejaculations does not help lower this number as the sperm in pre-cum is from initial sexual stimulation directly prior to sex. There are also studies in the process to determine whether the sperm in pre-cum are in fact more protected by the excess seminal fluid that also makes up pre-cum. These protective factors produced by the male reproductive glands create an ideal environment in the female vaginal canal, so that the sperm can thrive. These factors are more concentrated in pre-cum, meaning the sperm that go along with it have the possibility to be better protected and have more sustainability to survive.
Moral of the story, if you are trying to prevent an unwanted pregnancy please talk to your provider about birth control methods.
Yay safe sex!
